Cripiest Air Fryer Home Fries
These are the crispiest air-fryer home fries without all the grease you get from traditional frying. The outside turns golden and crisp, while the inside stays soft and fluffy.

We are huge fans of brinner, or breakfast for dinner, and since we have the chickens, there is always a plethora of fresh eggs. Lately, the home fries we’ve been cooking have been greasy and heavy. I wanted a better way. Potatoes should be crisp on the outside and light inside, not oily.
Why You’ll Love These Home Fries
- They cook faster than stovetop versions, which can take up to 45 minutes.
- The outside is perfectly crispy.
- The inside stays fluffly and moist without soaking up extra grease and fat.
- To cook home fries on the stove, the potatoes need to be par-cooked. Either boil them or microwave them for a few minutes, or they soak up way too much oil and never get done on the inside.
- They are better for you, since you use just a bit of oil.
- Leftover potatoes are perfect for the air fryer, too.
- These potatoes are better than any diner home fries you’ve ever had.
What You Need
You only need two ingredients plus seasonings to make these delicious home fries.
- Home Fries or Diced Hash Browns: Your favorite brand of frozen home fries.
- Oil: Olive oil, melted butter or cooking spray
- Paprika: You can use sweet or smoked paprika for a different flavor.
- Salt: Kosher salt or sea salt for the best flavor.
- Pepper: Freshly ground black pepper is best.

How to Make Them

Preheat the air fryer to 375°F. Add potatoes to a large bowl. Sprinkle with spices.

Spray the potatoes with cooking spray or drizzle about 1 tablespoon of olive oil over them. Toss to coat.

Arrange the potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Air fry for 8 minutes. Carefully remove the basket from the air fryer and flip the potatoes. Continue to air-fry for an additional 8 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy to your liking.
Optional Spices
You can season the potatoes with any spices you like. Some popular options are garlic powder, Italian seasoning, parsley, rosemary and onion powder.
You can also add chopped red bell pepper and onions to your potatoes, if you’d like.
How to Store Leftovers
Although they are best served fresh, you can store the home fries in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Don’t refreeze.
Heat the home fries in the air fryer for about 5 minutes until hot. You can also bake them on a lined baking sheet in the oven for 20-25 minutes until they’re hot and crispy again. They are great served in breakfast burritos or frittatas.
How to Make Home Fries from Scratch
Yukon Gold potatoes have less starch and don’t need to be peeled. If you use russets, peel them first. We also love red potatoes for Home Fries. Large diced or cubed potatoes to your preferred size. Immediately place them in a large bowl of cold water. Let them sit in the cold water for about 5 minutes.
Drain them thoroughly between sheets of paper towel, changing the towels a couple of times so they are very dry. Then, proceed with the instructions for frozen. They will take a couple of minutes less to cook if they aren’t frozen.
Pro Tips
- Don’t overcrowd the pan. For multiple batches, keep the done home fries warm in a 250°F oven.
- Sprinkle with just enough oil or no-stick spray to lightly coat the potatoes.
- Just use enough oil to lightly coat the potatoes.
- You can use sweet potatoes for a healthier choice.

Serve them for breakfast, brunch, lunch or an easy dinner.
- They are delicious with air fryer bacon and air fryer breakfast sausage.
