About Binky’s Culinary Carnival

Crafting delicious recipes with sustainable ingredients!

Hi! I’m Beth Neels, affectionately known as Binky. Let me give you a little information about Binky’s Culinary Carnival. Firstly, Welcome! Thanks for stopping by!

We live on a 30-acre farm in rural Upstate NY, which includes my husband, son, and three dogs. We’re nestled in the heart of apple country, surrounded by the lush beauty of the countryside. This location means we always have fresh fruits and vegetables, seasonally, just down the road.

I have a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in Ornamental Horticulture. I use my knowledge of plants to grow many great fruits and vegetables in the summer. I begin planning my garden for the year in January and then start planting the seeds in February and March, which will end up in my garden in May.

If you want to plant your own garden, take advantage of my How to Plant a Vegetable Garden Series. There are five detailed guides to help you with planning, planting, maintaining, and even harvesting your garden! The first part is Planning Your Vegetable Garden.

From my garden, I create all sorts of delicious recipes. There’s a large canning section on BCC where I preserve the season’s bounty. Making special treats, like dessertspicklesmain dishes, or appetizers, is so rewarding when you know all your produce is homegrown and organic.

I also craft most of our weekly dinners using ingredients from my garden, including 30-minute meals. We also have lots of Summer picnics on the patio, so the grilling and smoking recipes come in handy, too. They are all made with local ingredients. They will be convenient when planning a summer get-together with friends and family.

Field To Table – Hunting and Fishing Adventures

My boys, husband, and two sons love to hunt. We all share a passion for fishing, and I can even outfish the guys on a good day! For this reason, I also have an entire section of the blog that focuses on “Field To Table” Recipes made with fresh, sustainable ingredients that we hunt and fish for. We enjoy healthy foods that are organic, delicious, and low-cost all year long.

I’ve provided a detailed guide if you’re interested in cooking venison. You’ll find information on cooking all the different cuts of venison, where to source venison, proper venison handling techniques, and more.

If you would like to clean your fish or butcher your venison, we can help with that, too. Our YouTube videos on fileting fish are a big hit. Plus, we have a detailed article that will teach you all the animal’s different parts.
